Where We Come From
Bao Bei was created in 2006 when our founder, a then practicing physical therapist named Suzanne, noticed that her patients didn’t have the tools they needed to comfortably get through pregnancy. She began designing products that would support those who were looking to remain active and supported throughout their pregnancies and prevent them from turning to restrictive, ill-fitting girdles and binders that would squeeze their midsections and actually impede postpartum recovery. She started sharing her sample pieces with local Northern California mothers and officially launched Bao Bei at the Los Angeles Trade Show in September 2007. The Belly Sports Bra was officially born.
Fast forward to today, Bao Bei is still comprised of a small team of moms dedicated to providing support for people in all phases of their parenthood journey. We believe postpartum is forever and are constantly working to extend our reach so that everyone can feel supported, nurtured, and cared for through pregnancy and beyond.
What’s in a Name?
Bao Bei (pronounced Bow Bay) means something precious. The name was created in collaboration with a friend and artist of Chinese calligraphy, named Cheer. Together Suzanne and Cheer discussed the mission of Bao Bei, the meaning of the brand, and the message Suzanne wanted to impart to parents everywhere. They knew that the words Bao Bei would inspire and capture the intangible precious feeling of growing and nurturing another life and would embody all of what the company was hoping to achieve.
Intentional Design
Each product from our collection is intentionally created from start to finish. We begin with a design and test it again and again before it is ever publicly released. Each piece we make is more than just part of an outfit. We aim to create lasting support wear that will stand the test of time, and, most importantly, support a healthy pregnancy and postpartum. From our sizing to our fabric selection, nothing is chosen without thought and concern for those who are trusting us with their bodies.

I'm so disappointed in how this top has performed for me after all the glowing reviews. I'm a 32D/34B pre-pregnancy and typically wear size small bralettes postpartum. I got this top in S/M and upon first putting it on, found the straps to be a bit too long such that the cut was lower than I'd prefer as a mom of a toddler who will demand milk at the mere suggestion of cleavage. 🥴 But worse is that the top just continues to stretch out as I wear it. While the top is indeed beautifully soft and stretchy, I've found that the too long straps just keep getting longer and the low cut lower as I wear the top to nurse my newborn. Now my breasts are barely contained and will just sort of pour out of the top if I'm not sitting upright. There's no way I could wear this top outside as a style piece as other reviewers have and even its utility as a bra is limited given the complete lack of support and containment. I'm disappointed I paid so much for a top I'll ultimately barely use.
The comfort, the softness, the stretch, the flexibility! WOW. So impressed! It’s thick enough to wear as a crop top and thin enough that you’re not sweating too much if it’s hot! I love it. I’m currently 8 weeks pp and it’s so easy to breastfeed! So comfy. I got myself 1 black and 2 sage and I will be getting more in the future! Such a staple now!
Very comfortable and awesome support. I want one in every color
This is one of my favorites! It has a little more support than the bralette but is still super comfortable and makes nursing a breeze. It also works great while wearing a Willow pump which is awesome! Please make more colors!!
This thing is amazing. I wish I’d had it for my first two babies! By far the best nursing bra/ crop ever. I wear these constantly. I like this better than the full cup bralette (which I also have and now just use at night). This crop has the perfect amount of compression without smashing you. I’m about. 40C right now (3mo pp) and the M/L fits perfect. I just wish there were more colors! I would literally buy this in any and all colors. I need a tan, grey, or white option. Please make more!
